Welcome to the 2016 MIT SCALE Latin America Conference to be hosted at the MIT Campus on March 21-22, 2016. Organized by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics in collaboration with the Center for Latin-American Logistics Innovation, the goal of the conference is to provide a forum for sharing educational and applied research in logistics and supply chain management relevant to Latin America.

  • The registration fee is $200 prior to February 29, 2016. Registrations after February 29 will incur an additional $50 late registration penalty.
  • Students may attend for $50 but must register prior to February 29, 2016.

We invite abstract submissions for the 2016 SCALE Latin America Conference, hosted by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics in Cambridge, MA on March 21-22, 2016.  

The purpose of 2016 SCALE Latin America Conference is to provide a forum for sharing emerging, applied and multi-disciplinary research on all aspects related to logistics and supply chain management relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean. We are soliciting abstracts for conference presentations as well as papers.

Topics

The 2016 SCALE Latin America Conference welcomes papers and presentations in the following thematic areas:

  • Applied Operations Research
  • Innovative Case Studies in Logistics & Supply Chain Management
  • International Trade & Logistics, including port logistics
  • Novel teaching and educational methods
  • Sustainability
  • Urban Logistics
  • General Topics in Logistics & Supply Chain Management

In order to raise the visibility of logistics and supply chain management research and education in Latin America, authors submitting abstracts for the conference are encouraged to submit a short paper (5 -10 pages long) according to a template. Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings.

All abstract and paper submissions should be submitted in English via EasyChair. Conference oral presentations are allowed in English, Spanish or Portuguese, but English is strongly encouraged. Detailed instructions available in the PDF version of the Call For Papers.

 


Student Paper Competition

We invite abstract submissions to be considered for the Student Competition of the 2016 SCALE Latin America Conference, hosted by the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics in Cambridge, MA on March 21-22, 2016.  

Student Competition Motivation

Latin America is currently facing large and complex challenges given the socioeconomic and political conditions, also found in many countries around the world. This paper contest seeks to inspire students propose solutions through a strong focus on logistics, supply chain and operations management in the region.

Topics

Student papers needed to focus on one or more of the following issues:

  • Innovative Case Studies in Logistics & Supply Chain Management
  • International Trade & Logistics, including port logistics
  • Sustainability
  • Urban Logistics
Submission Procedure

Students must submit on or before October 29, 2015 an abstract (200-500 words) clearly explaining the mission and objectives of the proposed paper.  All submissions should be done via EasyChair. Selected abstracts will be notified by November 30, 2015. Final papers (5000 words max.) must be submitted via EasyChair before January 30, 2016.

During the conference, selected student authors will have 15-20 minutes to present their papers plus 5 minutes for questions and answers. Winners will be announced during the final plenary session of the conference. The best paper will receive a scholarship for the GCLOG Program. The scholarship consists of 50% and 25% tuition waivers to students in the winning team. Participation in the GCLOG Program is subject to eligibility and admission. 

Eligibility

Student authors must have been born or be living in Latin America and must be enrolled in an accredited graduate (doctoral or master level) or undergraduate program. Detailed instructions available in the PDF version of the Student Competition Call for Papers.
