Estimate of non-tuition costs for GCLOG

Besides the program tuition, each GCLOG student is responsible for covering all their expenses associated to their visits to MIT Campus. For most students, these costs are between US$4000 and $13000, with an average of US$8600 per student for both sessions combined. A breakdown of theses costs is provided below.

Airfare. As a reference, students from the GCLOG 2015 class spent on average US$2900 in airfare for both sessions combined. The cost of plane tickets varies widely, depending largely on the point of departure and how early the tickets are bought: for the class of 2015, typical expenses in airfare were between US$1700 and US$4100 for both sessions combined.

Lodging. As a reference, students from the GCLOG 2015 class spent on average US$3300 in lodging for both sessions combined. Lodging expenses vary widely and depend on the student's choice of accommodation: for the class of 2015, typical expenses in lodging were between US$1600 and US$5000 for both sessions combined.

Meals. As a reference, students from the GCLOG 2015 class spent on average US$1300 in food for both sessions combined. The cost of food depends on the student's choice of where and what to eat: for the class of 2015, typical expenses in food were between US$700 and US$1800 for both sessions combined.

Insurance. Given that medical costs in the Boston area are extraordinarily high, it is GCLOG policy that accepted students must submit proof of travel and medical insurance conforming to our requirements before an they can join the seminars at MIT. As a reference, students from the GCLOG 2015 class spent on average US$190 in insurance for both sessions combined. For the class of 2015, typical expenses in insurance were between US$120 and US$250 for both sessions combined.

Other. Students from the class of 2015 reported other expenses, ranging between US$0 and US$2100, averaging $1000 per student.
